This exclusive city garden with African flair on the Amsterdam canal is an invitation to live outside the lines, with space to relax, play and enjoy. A hidden gem on the canal, designed down to the last detail and sustainably landscaped. We combined robust materials, warm earth tones and customised solutions to create a unique garden with international allure.
A front garden with character
Upon arrival, the front garden immediately sets the tone. Long-format clinkers in typical African earth tones form the basis, complemented by characteristic pots from Atelier Vierkant and multi-stemmed eye-catchers. A robust bicycle shed with solid oak tree posts fits seamlessly into the whole.
African canopy and luxury outdoor kitchen
In the centre of the back garden, we created a custom-made canopy with oak tree posts and an electrically adjustable slatted roof from Corradi in a warm coral red shade. The tone-on-tone wall covering (Luxcom exterior wallpaper in a stucco look) creates a subtle layering effect. Under the canopy, you will find a round Lusso outdoor kitchen in sand colour, equipped with a Beefeater gas barbecue and an integrated Fhiaba wine climate cabinet – the ultimate in outdoor cooking.
Luxury materials and sustainable construction
The paving in this garden consists of sand-coloured Flexstones, which the gardeners have skilfully laid in Romfix for maximum stability and frost resistance. Much of the garden is underpinned, which is essential for durability. The raised terrace near the house features a custom-made mosaic of ceramic tiles in warm Afro colours – a true work of art by our craftsmen.
Play, relax and enjoy
At the heart of the garden lies a maintenance-free artificial grass playing field with two football goals – ideal for playing panna. At the back is a custom-made wooden playhouse built around a tree, entirely constructed by our carpenters based on an AI design provided by the customer.
You can exercise or take a refreshing dip in the safe and beautifully concealed Sundance Swimspa (Swimstream 14) with electrically operated Esthec Topcover. At the touch of a button, you can transform your wellness area into an extra luxurious terrace space. The Esthec Robusto decking in the colour mood, with its natural colour transitions, blends seamlessly into this savannah. The planks are made of high-quality components with a long lifespan and low maintenance.

Connection to the water supply
An elegant brick staircase under a pergola with tree posts and wisteria leads to the spacious jetty. The durable Esthec decking with integrated In-lite spotlights ensures a safe, atmospheric entrance – even in the evening hours. The comfortable beanbags invite you to relax by the water. We chose Esthec Robusto for the boat jetty because this decking is resistant to deformation, warping, discolouration and other forms of wear and tear that often occur with outdoor flooring. The material is durable and non-slip and feels wonderful under bare feet.
Exotic plants and mood lighting
The African planting is lush and well thought out. Large mature trees such as the plane tree provide structure and character. And the dense hedges from Smits Hedging immediately provide privacy. We installed all the garden lighting using In-lite: atmospheric Sway lamps dance like fireflies through the borders, and in the pergola you will find the same subtle Sway pendants among the wisteria. The canopy is equipped with a warm, dimmable LED light line. Trees and pergola are subtly illuminated with Scope ground spots for a warm, intimate atmosphere.
Tight coordination in a challenging environment
The biggest challenge of this project lay in the planning and logistics. The renovation of the house took place at the same time, which required precise coordination in Amsterdam, with hoisting work over canal houses and limited space. Thanks to 25 years of experience in high-quality urban landscaping, we were able to bring this project to a perfect conclusion.
